4,000 veterans to benefit from $9 million in US Department of Labor job training grants to continue existing programs

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today announced 22 grants totaling more than $9 million to provide approximately 4,000 veterans with job training to help them succeed in civilian careers. The grants are being awarded under the U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans Workforce Investment Program to continue successful programs into second and third years.

US Department of Labor announces Stand Down grants to assist about 10,000 homeless veterans

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service today announced the availability of $600,000 in "Stand Down" grants that will provide an estimated 10,000 homeless veterans with opportunities to reintegrate into society. New rule aimed at improving employment services for veterans proposed by US Department of Labor

US Department of Labor launches Veterans Hiring Toolkit for employers

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the availability of a new online toolkit to guide employers through the process for hiring veterans. WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service has awarded $4 million in Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program grants designed to aid veterans "at risk" of homelessness. The 16 grants will serve more than 1,400 formerly incarcerated veterans in 13 states.

During inaugural meeting, members of Interagency Council on Veterans Employment agree to publish plan to increase hiring of veterans by federal agencies

WASHINGTON On Dec. 11, the Interagency Council on Veterans Employment held its first meeting to discuss ways of expanding the participation of veterans in the nation's federal workforce. The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. John Berry, director of the Office of Personnel Management, serves as the council's vice chair and chief operating officer.

Approximately 15,000 veterans to benefit from more than $25 million in U.S. Department of Labor job training grants

Veteran to receive $118,000 in back pay, damages as result of U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service investigation

DETROIT In a settlement filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit, Ecolab Inc. has agreed to pay $118,000 to a returning Iraq war veteran to resolve a Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) complaint investigated by the U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS).
