U.S. Department of Labor Cites Pennsylvania Contractor For Continuing to Expose Employees to Fall Hazards

BENSALEM, PA - The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Strong Contractors Inc., based in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, for exposing employees to falls while working at Trinity Baptist Church. OSHA has proposed $110,971 in penalties.

OSHA initiated an inspection on Dec. 21, 2017, after receiving a complaint that employees were working on a steep roof, approximately 20 feet high, without fall protection. OSHA inspectors cited the company for exposing employees to fall hazards, and failing to provide appropriate eye protection. OSHA has inspected Strong Contractors Inc. 14 times since March 2017. Most recently, OSHA cited the company in March after investigators found employees exposed to fall and other safety hazards at a work site in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.

“Employers are legally responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace,” said Mark Stelmack, OSHA Wilkes-Barre Area Office Director. “This employer continues to demonstrate a consistent disregard for safety and health, leaving employees vulnerable to hazards that can cause serious or fatal injuries.”

The company has 15 business days from receipt of its citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA’s role is to ensure these conditions for America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education and assistance.
