U.S. Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council to hold July 2009 meeting

Washington – The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans (also known as the ERISA Advisory Council) will meet July 21-23, 2009 in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue, Room N-3437A-B.

The council meetings will take place each day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EDT to hear public testimony on the issues relating to: Approaches for Retirement Security in the United States; Stable Value Funds and Retirement Security in the Current Economic Conditions; and Promoting Retirement Literacy and Security by Streamlining Disclosure to Participants and Beneficiaries. On July 23, the department’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) will provide an update on agency activities.

Advisory council meetings are open to the public. The public may make requests to address the meeting or submit 30 copies of written statements by July 14, 2009. The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the Secretary of Labor. The members represent the general public, employers, employee organizations and the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
