OSHA News Release: Employee fatally injured after being caught in machinery at Alpha Baking Co. [10/30/2014]

CHICAGO — A 31-year-old engineer was fatally injured on May 27, 2014, when his head was struck by an unguarded rotating gear arm on a piece of bakery equipment at Alpha Baking Co. Inc. The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited the Chicago baking plant for six serious safety violations following the tragic incident.

ELGIN, Ill. — Bosco Custom Homes Inc. has again been cited for failure to provide fall protection to workers on three separate residential framing projects. MSHA News Release: MSHA issues third-quarter 2014 fatality data [10/28/2014]

ARLINGTON, Va. — The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration today released a summary of U.S. mining deaths that occurred during the third quarter of 2014. From July 1 to Sept. 30, eight miners were killed in accidents at work, including five in metal and nonmetal mining and three in coal mining. In that same period in 2013, nine miners died in mining accidents.

The lawsuit, filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, was the result of an investigation by the department's Wage and Hour Division. The investigation determined that the company violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay employees minimum wage and overtime and by failing to keep required records.

HOUSTON, Texas — Ensign United States Drilling (S.W.)
