More than 100 children illegally employed in hazardous jobs, federal investigation finds; food sanitation contractor pays $1.5M in penalties

KIELER, WI – One of the nation’s largest food safety sanitation services providers has paid $1.5 million in civil money penalties after the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division found the company employed at least 102 children – from 13 to 17 years of age – in hazardous occupations and had them working overnight shifts at 13 meat processing facilities in eight states.

US Department of Labor obtains judgment ordering Philadelphia-area home healthcare agency to pay $2.3M in back wages, damages to 398 workers

LANSDOWNE, PA Nearly 400 home healthcare workers, employed in an industry rife with overtime violations, will receive the wages they are owed after the U.S. Department of Labor obtained a consent judgment ordering a Philadelphia-area agency and its owners to pay them more than $2.3 million. A federal investigation found the employer willfully shortchanged employees’ hard-earned overtime wages.

Federal court requires Las Vegas paint, specialty coatings contractor who intimidated workers to pay $3.6M to 593 employees in four states

Department of Labor obtains judgment ordering auto parts seller, logistics company to pay $5.6M to 1,398 misclassified drivers

PHOENIX – A national auto parts distributor and an Arizona logistics firm that misclassified 1,398 drivers as independent contractors will pay them a total of $5.6 million in back wages and liquidated damages after the U.S. Department of Labor obtained a consent judgment in federal court.
