US Department of Labor finds Oklahoma aeronautical parts manufacturer exposed workers to numerous serious safety hazards

OKLAHOMA CITY –The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited an aeronautical parts manufacturer for exposing workers to nearly two dozen safety hazards following a complaint about a lax safety environment at the company’s plant in Catoosa. 

OSHA cited LMI Finishing Inc. – operating as Sonaca North America – for 23 serious violations of OSHA safety standards related to confined spaces, fall hazards and blocked exit routes.

Biden-Harris Administration announces nearly $200M available in grants to expand Registered Apprenticeships

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the availability of nearly $200 million in grants to continue to support public-private partnerships that expand, diversify and strengthen Registered Apprenticeship. The funding opportunity includes $95 million of competitive grants through the second round of the Apprenticeship Building America Grant Program and $100 million in the second round of State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula Grants.

US Department of Labor, Office of the US Trade Representative seek review of alleged denial of labor rights at RV Fresh guacamole facility in Michoacan, Mexico

WASHINGTON – The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement’s Interagency Labor Committee for Monitoring and Enforcement today requested the government of Mexico review an allegation that workers’ rights are being denied at the RV Fresh guacamole manufacturing facility in Michoacán, Mexico. The Secretary of Labor and U.S. Trade Representative co-chair the Interagency Labor Committee.

The request for review follows a Jan. 17, 2024 petition filed by the MP Union and its union confederation, the Confederación Central Nacional.

The previous week's average was revised up by 500 from 212,250 to 212,750.
