ERISA Advisory Council to discuss cybersecurity, other benefit plan issues at Aug. 23-25 meeting in Washington
WASHINGTON – The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans, also known as the ERISA Advisory Council, will meet at U.S. Department of Labor headquarters Aug. 23-25, 2016 to hear testimony from invited witnesses and receive an update from the Employee Benefits Security Administration. The council has scheduled the EBSA update tentatively for the morning of Aug. 25.
The department is located at 200 Constitution Ave. NW in Washington. The council will meet in C5521, Room 4, from 9 a.m. to approximately 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 24, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 25.
On Aug. 23, the council’s discussion includes “Participant Plan Transfers and Account Consolidation for the Advancement of Lifetime Plan Participation,” while on Aug. 24, the discussion will focus on “Cybersecurity Considerations for Benefit Plans.” The council will discuss both topics on Aug. 25. Statements should not include personally identifiable information (such as an address or other contact information) or confidential business information, as all statements are publicly available.
Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to address the council should also submit their requests to the executive secretary at the address above or by calling 202-693-8668. Oral presentations will be limited to 10 minutes, but an extended written statement may be submitted for the record. Those with disabilities who need special accommodations should contact the executive secretary by Aug. 16, 2016.
Section 512 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act provides for the establishment of the ERISA Advisory Council, which advises the secretary of labor and submits recommendations regarding the secretary's functions under ERISA.
