ERISA Advisory Council to Hold Working Group Meetings in July

Washington DC - The 2002 working groups of the Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Plans will meet July 17, 18 and 19 to set their study goals for the year and begin taking testimony on their respective topics. All sessions, in addition to a 2:00 p.m. full Council meeting on Friday, July 19, will take place at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC in Conference Suite N-5437 A-C.

The working group studying fiduciary education and training will meet from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17. Norman Stein, Law Professor at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, is the working group chair, and Robert Patrician, a Senior Research Economist for the Communications Workers of America, Washington, DC, is vice chair.

The working group studying orphan plans will meet from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 18. Orphan plans are plans abandoned by all plan fiduciaries designated to manage and operate the plans and their assets. Catherine Heron, Senior Vice President, Fund Business Management Group, Capital Research and Management in Los Angeles, California, is the working group chair, and David Wray, President of the Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of Chicago, Illinois, is the vice chair.

The working group studying electronic reporting will meet from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19. The chair of the working group is Evelyn F. Adams, Business Segment Executive, IBM Global Services, Gaithersburg, Maryland, and the vice chair is Timothy J. Mahota, General Counsel, Integral Development, Mountain View, California.

At the full Council meeting, the three working group chairs will report on their groups’ progress and members will be updated on activities of the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration.
