Advisory Council On Employee Welfare And Pension Plans To Hold Final Meeting Of Year Nov. 14

The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefits will hold its final meeting of the year on Nov. 14, at which time its three working groups will present the final reports/recommendations they’ve prepared for Secretary of Labor Alexis M. Herman. The public session will take place in the Secretary’s Conference Room, S-2508, at the U.S. Department of Labor’s Frances Perkins Building at 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20210.

Outgoing members also will be cited for accomplishments during their three-year appointments. They include current Advisory Council chair Michael J. Gulotta, president and chief executive officer of Actuarial Sciences Associates of Somerset, NJ; vice chair Rose Mary Abelson of Los Angeles, CA, assistant treasurer/director of investments and trust management, Northrup Grumman Corp.; Richard Tani of Mt. Prospect, IL, retired from William M. Mercer; Eddie C. Brown of Baltimore, president, Brown Capital Management, and Judith Ann Calder, CEO of Abacus Financial Group, Inc. in Chicago.

Prior to the final session, the groups are scheduled to meet in Conference Suite N-5437 at the department to finalize their reports as follows:

  • The working group on long-term care - 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 13.
  • The working group on phased retirement - 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 13.
  • The working group studying benefit continuity after organizational restructuring - 9:30 a.m. Nov. 14.

Although all three study groups are finished with their issues, persons wishing to appear before any of the study groups on either day or wishing to submit written statements on this year’s topics, may contact Executive Secretary Sharon Morrissey in Room N-5656, Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration, Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20210. If written statements are to be provided, 20 copies must be sent to Ms. Morrissey before Nov. 6. The ERISA Advisory Council, comprised of 15 members from statutorily-specified subject areas in employee benefits and related fields, provides the Labor Secretary with policy recommendations and/or reports relating to private pension and other employee benefit issues. The advisory council was established by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).
