I ts online applica tion O NET On Line provid es easy public access to the database. Using O NE T OnLine job seekers and workforce business and human resource professional s can 1 find occupations to explore 2 search for occupa tions t hat use d esignated skills 3 look at related occupa tions 4 view o ccupat ion summaries and details 5 use crosswalks to find corresponding occupa tions in other cl assification systems 6 create and print customized reports outlin ing th eir O NET search results 7 connect to other online care er information r esources and 8 access c omprehensive h elp programs. Get started by clicking on onlin e.on etcen ter.org for the O NET Welcome screen. On that page you will see th ree main pa ths you can follo w to access the O NET da tabase using O N ET OnLine. Use th e columns o n the right side of this sheet to gu ide you through each path . Find Occupations Find an occ upation u sing a ke yword co de or job fa mily . 1. Click on Find Occupations on t he O NET We lcome screen. 2. On the Find Occupations screen search f or an occupation by Typing in a key word phr ase or title and clicking go or Typing in an O NE T-SOC Code and clicking go or Scrolling down to select a job fam ily or the all occupations option and clickin g go. 3. On the Search R esults screen f ind the occupation tha t inter ests y ou and click on the ty pe of r epor t you would like about t he occ upation- -Summary Details or Custo m. Skills Search Use a list o f your skills to find matchin g O NET occup ations . 1. Click on Skills Search on the O NET We lcome screen. 2. On the Skills Search screen check the boxes next t o the skills y ou have or plan to acquir e. Select the most signif icant of your skills. Whe n satisfied with skills select ion click go. 3. On the Search Results screen f ind the occupation that interests you. The occupations that r equir e a higher nu mber of your skills a re listed first. Click on the type of repor t y ou would like about t he occupation- -Summary Details or Custo m. Crosswalk Use o ther cl assifica tion systems to find matching O NET oc cu pations. 1. Click on Cross walk on the O NET We lcome screen. 2. On the Crosswalk screen ente r a code par tial code or title for one of the listed classification system s and then click go. 3. The Search Results screen either identifies a unique occupation or lists all the occupations in that classification syst em related to your entr y. On ce y ou have identified t he related O NET occupation that inter ests y ou click on the ty pe of r epor t you would like about the occupation--Su mmary Details or Cu stom. O NET OnLine Reports Summar y Details and Custom Formats Summ ary Details and Custom Reports list and defin e the O NET des criptor s fo r your selected occupation including the tasks knowledge skills abilities wo rk activities work context job zone job interests work values and work needs. Turn this page over for more inform ation about these O NET descr iptor s. Inside each Repor t scroll down t o Related Occupations to see a list of occupations r elated t o your selected oc cupation. View a repor t for a related occupation by clicki ng on Su mmary Details or Custo m repor t. Save any table in t he Su mmary or Details Report by clic king on save tabl e above each tabl e. Descript or Scales O NET desc riptors have an ass ociated scale su ch as I mportance Level Frequency or Extent against which the requir ements of an occupation are rated. All scales range fr om 0-100. Job Zone Each occupation is assigned an O NE T Job Z one L evels 1 5 that distinguishes the over all exper ience education and on- the- job tr aining r equir ed. For exam ple jobs in Jo b Z one One may requir e minim al exper ience and pos sibly a hig h school di plo ma or GE D jobs in J ob Zone Three may requir e so me vocational tr aining and or on-the-job experience or an associate s degree or possibl y a bachelor s degree. The table below outlines t he 5 job zones used in O NE T and pr ovides the equivalent Sp ecif ic Vocational Prepar ation ratin g .
