US Department of Labor to provide benefits outreach in metro-Denver area for current, former nuclear weapons workers
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor will host an information session in Arvada, Colorado, on Sept. 12, 2023, for current and former nuclear weapons workers and their families employed at covered facilities on the benefits available under the federal Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.
“The U.S. Department of Labor encourages all former nuclear weapons workers and their families in metro Denver area to attend this outreach event to learn more about their eligibility for federal health benefits,” said Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Director Rachel Pond. “Department representatives will be available to assist attendees with filing claims and to provide information on existing claims under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.”
The Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act provides compensation and medical benefits to workers or their survivors for illness related to exposure to radiation or other toxic substances during their employment at Department of Energy or its contractors’ and subcontractors’ facilities.
The event is open to the public and no pre-registration is needed. Services will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The department’s Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act provides lump-sum compensation and medical benefits to current and former nuclear weapons workers whose illness is the result of working in the nuclear weapons industry. The program has paid almost $1.4 billion in compensation and medical benefits to claimants living in Colorado and more than $24 billion to claimants nationwide.
