Funding for $7M project to reduce child labor, improve labor rights and working conditions in Honduras available from the US Labor Department

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of International Labor Affairs today announced a $7 million competitive solicitation for a project to reduce child labor and improve labor rights and working conditions in Honduras, particularly in the agricultural areas of southern Honduras and in the San Pedro Sula area.

One or more qualifying organizations will receive funding to support Honduras' efforts to combat child labor and improve labor rights and working conditions. The project will seek to reduce child labor in part by promoting education opportunities for children and improved livelihoods for their households. It will also employ a broader workers' rights-based approach that addresses exploitative working conditions and supports freedom of association and collective bargaining, among other labor rights.

Eligible applicants may include: any commercial; international; educational; or nonprofit organization(s), including any faith-based, community-based or public international organization(s), capable of successfully implementing the actions outlined in the solicitation.

Applications must be submitted in English by July 2, 2014, at 5 p.m. EDT electronically via http://www.grants.gov or in hard copy format mailed to the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Procurement Services, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Room S-4307, Washington, DC 20210, Attention: Brenda White.

All awards will be made by Sept. 30. The solicitation for grant applications (SCA 14-04) is available online at http://www.dol.gov/ilab/grants/ and http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=254090.
