U.S. Department of Labor Awards $6.2 Million to Support Employment Services for Older Americans Seeking to Rejoin Workforce

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of $6,225,000 in grants to seven organizations for demonstration projects to provide work-based job training for low-income, unemployed older Americans as part of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

Authorized by the Older Americans Act of 1965 and administered by the Department’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA), the grants support innovative or novel approaches to training, customer service, and capacity building to improve service delivery for older unemployed individuals and to improve their training and employment outcomes.

“The Employment and Training Administration is committed to supporting innovative programs that can help older Americans gain the skills they need to take advantage of new employment opportunities in the marketplace,” said Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training John Pallasch. “These grants will spur creativity in problem solving, improve the lives of older Americans, and enable them to thrive in their communities.”

ETA chose SCSEP grant recipients based on several factors, including performance, fiscal responsibility, and other measures in Program Year 2018.
