US Labor Department awards $248K grant to help Alaska Native youth develop STEM job skills

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor announced today the award of $248,500 in funding to help supplement existing employment and training efforts for Alaska Native youth with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields.

These awards aim to increase Alaska Native enrollment in STEM-related certificate and degree programs, as well as provide education mentoring programs and work experience in STEM-related professions. They will focus on developing programs designed to strengthen opportunities for Alaska Native youth and young adults, ages 14 to 24, to develop the skills necessary for jobs in high-growth, in-demand occupations and industries.

The grant announced today is awarded to the Pribilof Islands Aleut Community of St. Paul Island in St. Paul Island, Alaska.
