US Department of Labor provides grant supplement to assist workers affected by layoffs at Maine Military Authority

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $100,485 National Emergency Grant supplement to continue providing re-employment and training services to about 75 workers affected by layoffs by the Maine Military Authority in Limestone, Maine.

"This additional funding will enable these workers to continue to receive services that equip them with the necessary skills to re-enter the workforce," said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Jane Oates. "Access to this kind of assistance is critical in today's challenging labor market."

An initial grant of $463,083 was awarded to the Maine Department of Labor on May 10, 2011. Today's supplement brings the total funds awarded to date to $563,568.

National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines. For more information, visit http://www.doleta.gov/NEG/.
