U.S. Department of Labor to offer free health law seminar on July 15 and 16 in Cincinnati

Cincinnati – A free health law compliance assistance seminar for employers, plan fiduciaries and plan services providers, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) and the Ohio Department of Insurance, will take place July 15 and 16 at the Kingsgate Marriott Conference Hotel at the University of Cincinnati, 151 Goodman Drive.

The seminar is part of the Labor Department’s Health Benefits Education Campaign, which helps workers and employers, especially small businesses, understand their rights and responsibilities under various health benefits laws. Sessions will address the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) premium reduction and related provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act), as well as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), including privacy issues, the Family and Medical Leave Act, other federal benefits laws under Part 7 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and fiduciary responsibility.

Panelists will include representatives of EBSA, the Ohio Department of Insurance, the Labor Department’s Employment Standards Administration and Veterans’ Employment and Training Services, the Internal Revenue Service, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Attendees will receive a copy of the booklet “Health Benefits Coverage Under Federal Law,” as well as information on the Recovery Act and other materials.
