U.S. Department of Labor to offer free health law seminar April 30 to May 1 in Savannah, Georgia

Atlanta – A free health law compliance assistance seminar for employers, plan fiduciaries and plan service providers, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) and the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, will take place April 30 to May 1 at The Mulberry Inn, 601 East Bay Street, in Savannah, Georgia.

Sessions will cover the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other federal laws under Part 7 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Information also will be presented on fiduciary responsibility, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, health savings accounts, HIPAA privacy, and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. Panelists will include representatives of EBSA, the Labor Department’s Employment Standards Administration and Veterans Employment and Training Service, the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The seminar is part of EBSA’s health education campaign to help workers and employers, especially small businesses, understand their rights and obligations under various health benefit laws.
