U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao Announces Agenda for 2006 Saver Summit

Washington, DC - U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced the agenda of the 2006 National Summit on Retirement Savings that will be held March 1-2, at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, DC. The Summit will focus on “Saving for Your Golden Years: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities.”

The two-day event will feature addresses by a number of speakers including Vice President Richard B. Cheney; Secretary Elaine L. Chao; Ben Stein, renowned actor, economist, and financial expert; the Honorable Donald L. Evans, chief executive officer of The Financial Services Forum; and Ann L. Combs, assistant secretary of the Labor Department’s Employee Benefits Security Administration. Congressional leaders, including Senate Majority Leader William Frist, House Majority Leader John Boehner, Senator Michael Enzi, Senator Charles Grassley, Representative Michael Oxley, and Senator Edward Kennedy have also been invited to address the Summit delegates.

Throughout the event, Summit delegates will participate in four concurrent breakout groups. These groups will focus on the challenges to saving faced by low-income workers, small business employees, new entrants into the workforce, and workers nearing retirement.

The agenda will be published in the February 22 Federal Register.
