EBSA Press Release: ERISA Advisory Council To Hold Public Meetings In July [07/05/1996]

The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, July 16 in Room S-3215 A&B in the Frances Perkins Building, U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

The Working Group on Guidance for Selecting and Monitoring Service Providers will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The meeting will focus on what type of general guidance would be useful to fiduciaries who must select and monitor plan service providers. The work group also will consider narrowing its focus to evaluating guidance for specific service providers such as investment consultants and investment managers.

The group also plans to survey and evaluate codes of conduct in the plan community to establish current industry practices.

Individuals or organizations wishing to address the council should submit 20 copies before July 10 to Sharon Morrissey, acting executive secretary, ERISA Advisory Council, U.S. Department of Labor, Suite N-5677, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Oral presentations are limited to 10 minutes but witnesses may submit an extended statement for the record.

Members of the public who do not wish to testify may submit 20 copies of their statement to the above address. Individuals with disabilities who need special accommodations also should contact the department by July 10 at the address above.

The advisory council is a bipartisan group of 15 members appointed by the secretary of labor to represent a wide range of interests in the employee benefit area. The council advises and makes recommendations to the secretary on the administration of ERISA.
