We’re protecting and uplifting workers

On Wednesday, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su and Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo toured a training facility in Philadelphia operated by Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 19. They met with workers, apprentices, union leaders and employers to discuss ways the Biden-Harris administration is creating good paying clean energy jobs.

We awarded more than $43 million in grants to support the nation’s workers this week, including:

• More than $39 million to increase the capacity of Registered Apprenticeship programs. 
• $3,750,000 to support ongoing Hurricane Ian recovery efforts in Florida. 
• $800,000 for employment and training services in Montana. 

We know that many LGBTQIA+ individuals face unique challenges to their health and financial security. The Employee Benefits Security Administration is sharing cost-effective tips to improve your health and well-being.

The U.S. economy added 206,000 jobs in June, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with notable gains in government, health care, social assistance and construction. The labor force participation rate for “prime-age” workers (ages 25-54) reached a 22-year high.

This partnership has helped us recover more than $15 million in back wages for thousands of workers – and it’s more important than ever.

We recovered $912,594 for 44 employees of a New Hampshire brewery and restaurant that illegally kept workers’ tips and denied some employees overtime pay.

We’re making up to $1 million available in Brookwood-Sago grants to train the nation’s mining community to help identify and prevent unsafe working conditions.

Four years after a double fatality, OSHA has cited a Texas tank cleaning contractor for the same hazards that claimed another employee’s life.

OSHA investigators found the owner of a Pennsylvania roofing company risked the lives of two of his children by exposing them to falls while working atop an apartment complex roof.

We’re teaming up with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to host eight workplace rights webinars during August, Breastfeeding Awareness Month, for expectant and new mothers.
