Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su met with Illinois leaders, tradeswomen and others in Chicago last week, where they announced a partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation to bring more women into construction jobs. She also toured the facility of one of our grant recipients, Chicago Women in Trades, a nonprofit organization that offers free training in essential trades skills to women.

An April 2023 job listing for a business analyst with federal IT contractor Arthur Grand Technologies read in part, “Only Born US Citizens [White] who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, TX [Don’t share with candidates].” In a conciliation agreement with the Labor Department, the contractor has agreed to pay $31,000, evaluate its hiring procedures and train its employees to avoid future hiring discrimination. A separate agreement with the Department of Justice resolves violations of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
