The Rosies: Women Riveters, Welders & and World War II Industry Workers

"We can do it."

The Rosies are the 5 to 7 million women who worked in war-industry-related jobs during World War II. They maintained American production of the planes, ships, tanks, arms and munitions required to defeat the Axis powers in the European and Pacific theaters. The Rosies produced the M4 Sherman tank, Grumman TBF Avenger, Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and the Essex-class aircraft carrier, USS Hancock. These women did not just provide for our success at war, but they set an example for future generations – proving that women could do any job and compete in the workforce for profitable employment.
