The Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) Initiative, now in its sixth round, represents a $48.9 million investment by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration. In partnership with the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), Delta Regional Authority (DRA), and Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC), the initiative supports 35 innovative projects across 18 states. With grant awards ranging from $150,000 to $1.5 million, WORC focuses on providing career training and supportive services to help rural jobseekers and workers secure high-demand, quality jobs.

Since its launch in 2019, WORC has awarded nearly $214 million, underscoring a strong commitment to strengthening rural economies. Round Six emphasizes three key priorities:

  • Promoting Good Jobs: Supporting positions with a minimum wage of $15/hour.
  • Prioritizing Equity: Advancing initiatives that focus on marginalized populations.
  • Sustaining Impact: Creating long-lasting benefits for rural workers, businesses, and communities.
