Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC)

Outreach in Paducah, Kentucky (KY) - Staff from the DEEOIC National Office hosted an outreach event at the Emerging Technology Center in Paducah, KY on June 20, 2019. Representatives from the Department of Labor, Department of Energy, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Offices of the Ombudsman to both NIOSH and EEOICPA, the Former Worker Program, Queens College, BTMed, and Worker Health Protection Program, presented information about the compensation and medical benefits available under the EEOICPA, and/or, on their roles in the Program. The EEOICPA is administered by the Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs, Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC).

Current/former employees or survivors of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant or any facility involved in nuclear weapons industry, who developed radiation-induced cancer or other conditions related to their employment, were encouraged to attend. There were two meetings held: one for employees/survivors and authorized representatives and one for medical providers. Staff from the Jacksonville District Office and the Paducah Resource Center were available between the hours of 9am - 5pm to assist individuals with filing new claims, filing for new conditions, and providing claim status updates on existing EEOICPA claims. One-hundred and thirty (130) people attended the first session, 33 individuals attended the second session, 1 new claim was taken, and there were 14 follow-ups.
