US Labor Department hosts meetings on EEOICPA benefits, claims for current, former nuclear workers at Illinois, Kentucky sites
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor will host meetings on June 14, 2017, in Metropolis, Illinois, to provide information about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.
Staff from the department’s Cleveland and Jacksonville district offices and Paducah Resource Center will be on hand to assist current and former nuclear workers from the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah, Kentucky, and two Illinois sites, the Allied Chemical Corp. Plant in Metropolis and General Steel Industries in Granite City, in filing new claims or checking the status of existing claims.
While walk-ins are welcome, an appointment with staff is recommended to allow appropriate time and assistance for individual attendees. To schedule an appointment, call 866-534-0599.
The EEOICPA provides compensation and medical benefits to employees, including contractors and subcontractors, who became ill as a result of exposure to toxic substances while employed at an EEOICP-covered facility. Survivors of qualified workers may also be entitled to benefits. A searchable list of the covered facilities is available here.
To date, the program has paid $200 million in EEOICPA compensation and medical benefits to 1,968 Illinois claimants and $13.7 billion nationwide.
