You will be asked to complete a career interest text field as part of the WRP application. The goal of your career interest statement is to inform potential employers about your current and future job interests and goals in 300 characters or fewer. Below are examples that may help you as you write your statement.
For undergraduates:
Example 1
As a college freshman pursuing an accounting degree, I am eager to explore through a summer internship how my skills match with government opportunities. I hope to contribute to the financial success of an agency and gain experience in bookkeeping, financial reporting, auditing, or budget creation.
Example 2
I would like to gain social work experience through a summer internship. I aim to develop my research, writing, and critical thinking skills while working with at-risk populations. I am particularly interested in supporting initiatives to decrease homelessness among veterans.
Example 3
I hope to put my BS in nursing to work providing compassionate and high-quality patient care while developing my clinical skills. I aim to work for an agency that values teamwork, innovation, and professional growth. Ultimately, I’d like to become a nurse educator who trains health care professionals.
Example 4
I am a computer science major and veteran eager to continue serving my country. I am seeking an internship in software development, design, or engineering in a federal IT department. I understand programming languages, including Python, C++, and Java, and enjoy working with graphic user interfaces.
For recent college graduates:

For graduate-school students and recent graduates:
