US Department of Labor will offer training, compliance assistance at 2024 Central Alabama Construction Safety Conference, Expo

Quote: “Employers can prevent workplace injuries and fatalities by understanding potential hazards and by committing to their employees’ safety and well-being,” said OSHA Area Office Director Jose Gonzalez in Mobile, Alabama. “All workers have the right to a work environment free of hazardous conditions that pose a threat to their safety and health. The Central Alabama Safety Construction Conference and Expo is intended to provide free information on a wide range of safety and health-related subjects to employers and employees.

Background: At the one-day event, OSHA representatives and other presenters will offer free training and compliance assistance – in English and Spanish – to employers and employees in preventing construction-related injuries and illnesses. The conference is designed to provide information and resources to contractors, workers and others, and include discussions on how to combat heat-related illnesses and injuries, falls, excavation and trenching hazards and suicide prevention. Topics presented in Spanish include jobsite safety 101, scaffold safety basics, excavating and trench safety, personal protection equipment and fall protection. 

Vendors will also be on hand for a small equipment expo to present and demonstrate safety equipment. 

Sponsored by OSHA, the Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety, the Associated General Contractors Alabama Chapter, Subcontractors Association of Alabama, UA SafeState, Brasfield & Gorrie General Contractors, Penhall Co., BL Harbert International, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, Stone & Sons and United Rentals, the event is free for attendees but registration is required.
