Our History:

In the early 20th century, deplorable working conditions, child labor abuse, and lack of wage protection were just some of the issues that prompted the creation of the Department of Labor. In 1913, Congress created the Department of Labor to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of America’s workers. This marked the culmination of nearly half a century of public demand for a department that would be devoted exclusively to supporting America’s workers.

Our Future:

As we face new challenges of the 21st-century, we need your talent, imagination and dedication to public service to continue our tradition of excellence in serving the American people. If you want to have a part in reshaping the American workforce of the 21st-century, your place is with the Department of Labor.
