U.S. Department of Labor to Award $10 Million Grant to Enhance Labor Compliance in Key Export Sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa

WASHINGTON, DC The U.S. Department of Labor today announced its intent to award up to $10 million in grant funding for a regional project to enhance labor compliance in key export sectors in the Republic of Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and one other African trade partner country.

Made available through the Department’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), the grant will support efforts to improve compliance with relevant international labor standards and acceptable conditions of work, with an emphasis on promoting occupational safety and health in one or more export-oriented economic sectors, such as the mining and quarrying sector.

ILAB’s mission is to promote a fair global playing field for workers and businesses in the United States and around the world by enforcing trade commitments, strengthening labor standards, and combating international child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking.
