To request Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Section 166 grantees to submit nominations for appointment the Native American Employment and Training Council (NAETC) for consideration by Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez

(1) To advise states of two important clarifications about Pell Grant eligibility requirements, (2) to encourage states to use procedures that inform Unemployment Insurance (UI) beneficiaries before enrollment whether training is considered by the state as UI Approved Training, and (3) to remind states that determinations made on UI Approved Training requests may be reported as “countable” non-monetary determinations for workload purposes.

To announce the availability of a new online technology tool to support documentation of claimant work search activities which states may integrate directly into their current UI and workforce IT system infrastructure or that can serve as a model for states to do their own programming.

To announce the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Interstate Benefits and Federal Programs Training Conference scheduled to be held September 8-10, 2009, in St. Petersburg, Florida and to encourage state workforce agency staff participation.

To transmit the subject computation for State Workforce Agency usage in computing minimum weekly DUA amounts for all major disasters declared during the second quarter of Fiscal Year (FY) 2014

To notify State Workforce Agencies (SWAs) of the availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 funds for technology-based overpayment prevention, detection, and collection infrastructure investments to support integrity-related activities.

To respond to further questions from state workforce agencies and to provide guidance related to claims filed by furloughed workers during the October 1-16, 2013, Federal government lapse in appropriations, or “shutdown,” and administrative funding for the program pursuant to the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014.

To (1) advise states of the Department of Labor’s (Department’s) revised position for determining if amounts are available for the payment of unemployment compensation (UC) for purposes of obtaining a Title XII advance and to (2) provide procedures for establishing Administrative Subaccounts in the state’s account in the Unemployment Trust Fund (UTF).

This Training and Employment Notice (TEN) serves as a reminder to states of the importance of ensuring that duplication of services is not occurring as a result of co-enrolling participants in the WIA and Wagner-Peyser programs.

To announce upcoming webinars that will be held the week of July 20, 2009, to provide information on implementing the guidance set forth in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Memorandum M-09-21, Implementing Guidance for the Reports on Use of Funds Pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
