EMPLEO reaches 10 years helping immigrant workers and their employers
Labor outreach and assistance partnership keeps on growing as it celebrates first decade
LAS ANGELES -- Since its inception in Southern California in 2004, the EMPLEO (Employment Education and Outreach) alliance of community and nongovernmental organizations, along with state, local and federal agencies and the Mexican and Central American consulates, has provided information and assistance to Spanish-speaking workers and employers regarding their workplace rights and responsibilities in the United States. For example, EMPLEO’s 1-877-552-9832 toll-free assistance hotline has been instrumental in helping approximately 10,000 workers recover more than $15 million in back wages. During its first decade, EMPLEO has expanded its reach to also serve immigrant workers and employers in Washington, Nevada, Oregon and Idaho.
Representatives from the news media in Los Angeles and Southern California are cordially invited to attend EMPLEO’s anniversary event in Los Angeles, the city where it all started 10 years ago.
