US Labor Department Wage and Hour Division staff to discuss federal labor laws at Mexican Consulate in Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Wage and Hour Division investigators will be available Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT at the Mexican Consulate office located at 1700 Chantilly Drive NE, Atlanta, to answer questions and inform individuals of their rights under federal labor laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Workers Protection Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

“This is an opportunity for people to drop by without an appointment and ask questions about the applicability of federal labor laws to their particular situations,” said Oliver Peebles III, regional administrator for the division in Atlanta. “People who might otherwise have felt intimidated or discouraged from contacting the Wage and Hour Division are more comfortable speaking with us at the consulate.”

Staff will be available to take complaints in both English and Spanish from individuals who feel they are being employed in violation of labor laws.

The Wage and Hour Division enforces federal minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping and child labor requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The division also enforces the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, wage garnishment provisions of the Consumer Credit Protection Act, and a number of employment standards and worker protections as provided in several immigration related statutes. Additionally, the division administers and enforces the prevailing wage requirements of the Davis Bacon Act and the Service Contract Act, and other statutes applicable to federal contracts for construction and for the provision of goods and services.

Individuals who are unable to travel to the consulate may call the Wage and Hour Division’s toll-free helpline at 866-4US-WAGE (487-9243) or visit for more information about the laws the division enforces.
