New Jersey is referred to as the Garden State, because of its lavish production of produce. It has a variety of industries which include pharmaceutical, education, petroleum and health-care. New Jersey and New York are key distribution centers for the Northeast.
New York is considered the Empire State. With a large population residing in the metropolitan area of New York City, it is home to the Wall Street financial district and headquarters to a number of Fortune 500 companies. The vibrant culture of the city includes performing and visual arts museums and a wide choice of entertainment. Thus, it is a major attraction for tourism. In contrast to the metropolitan area, upstate New York has vast agricultural resources in addition to other industries.
The beautiful Caribbean Islands of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are host to a major tourism industry. The important migration patterns into New York and New Jersey make the Islands an integral part of Region II.
