HIRE Vets Medallion Program

HIRE Vets Medallion ProgramThe HIRE Vets Medallion Program will recognize employers who recruit, retain, and employ veterans, and who offer charitable services in support of the veteran community. The Department of Labor is establishing the program under the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act, or HIRE Vets Act. President Donald J. Trump signed the act into law May 5, 2017. "Veterans give an incredible gift to this country, and that giving doesn't stop when they leave the military. From technical know-how to leadership skills honed on the battlefield, veterans have a wide range of abilities that make them tremendous assets for the American economy and for any employer," said U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta. "The Department of Labor looks forward to shining the spotlight on employers who make hiring veterans a priority and encouraging other employers to hire our nation's heroes."

Notice of Proposed Rulemaking

The HIRE Vets Act of 2017 requires the Secretary of Labor to establish a recognition program by rule that recognizes employer efforts to recruit, employ, and retain veterans.

The Department of Labor, Veterans’ Education and Training Service (VETS), published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for public comment on August 18, 2017. The proposed rule would establish the criteria and the process for VETS to receive HIRE Vets Medallion Award applications from employers, verify the information and issue HIRE Vets Medallion awards to recognize successful applicants for their veteran employment efforts.

VETS invites the public to participate in this rulemaking by submitting comments during the 30-day comment period. Public comments can be submitted by:

  • Federal eRulemaking Portal: http://www.regulations.gov. Follow the website instructions for sending comments; or
  • Mail or Hand Delivery Courier: Please submit all written comments (including disk and CD-ROM submissions) by hand delivery, express mail, messenger, or courier service to: Randall Smith, Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, U.S. Department of Labor, Room S-1325, 200 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20210.
