Assistance available for nuclear weapons workers in Burlington, Ames
US Labor Department representatives on-hand for three-day event, Sept. 13-15

Event: The U.S. Department of Labor and other federal agencies will host four town hall meetings in Iowa for retired, former and current nuclear weapons workers and their survivors. At the meetings, in Burlington on Sept. 13, and in Ames from Sept. 14-15, federal representatives will provide information about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act and the program’s available medical benefits.

The EEOICPA provides compensation and medical benefits to current and former employees whose work in the nuclear weapons industry made them ill. Survivors of qualified workers may also be entitled to benefits.

At each meeting, federal representatives from the Joint Outreach Task Group – of which the department is a member – will present information. Representatives will also be available to help individuals file new claims and provide claimants with status updates on their existing claims. The same information will be presented at all meetings.
