US Department of Laborís ERISA Advisory Council to hold meeting Aug. 30-Sept. 1
WASHINGTON The U.S. Department of Labor's Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans, also known as the ERISA Advisory Council, will meet Aug. 30 Sept. 1 at Labor Department headquarters, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. 20210, in Room C-5515-1A.
The meeting will take place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. EDT on Aug. 30, and from 8:30 a.m. 5 p.m. EDT on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. In addition to testimony from invited witnesses, the Aug. 31 agenda will include an update on the activities of the department's Employee Benefits Security Administration. Topics being studied by this year's council include the following:
- Challenges and best practices for Employee Retirement Income Security Act compliance for 403(b) plan sponsors.
- Hedge funds and private equity investments.
- Privacy and security issues affecting employee benefit plans, other than health care plans.

The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the secretary of labor. The members represent the general public, employers and employee organizations, as well as the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
