TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION NOTICE No. 14-97
55 and Better! Older Worker Multi-Regional Training Conferences.
To invite the participation of workforce development professionals in the employment and training community to attend one of three multi-regional conferences dealing with the employment and training of mature and experienced workers.
Questions may be directed to the Division of Older Worker Programs at (202) 219-5904.
Background: Within the Employment and Training Administration, the Division of Older Worker Programs has arranged for three multi-regional conferences. While the principal audience is the Senior Community Service Employment Program staff, the workshops and plenary sessions should prove to be of interest to the broader workforce development system as well. The conferences should be of particular interest to individuals who operate JTPA Section 204(d) programs, and substate areas that serve large numbers of dislocated older workers. Subjects Addressed At The Conferences: The conferences will include plenary sessions of broad general interest. Included will be information on a new study examining the employment and training implications of the aging "Baby Boom" generation, information technology and the Older Worker Internet Project, and a legislative and policy update. Workshops likely to be of more specific interest include Welfare-to-Work, rural programs, public relations techniques, and assessment and individual development plans. There will also be workshops on older workers and One-Stop Career Centers, the Enterprise and ETA's Quality Initiatives, and several Simply Better! products -- the Self-Assessment System, Service by Design, and the Voice of the Customer. Conference attendees will have a wide range of sessions from which to choose. Dates and locations: The three conferences are scheduled as follows: Philadelphia, PA November 5 - 7, 1997 Houston, TX November 12 - 14, 1997 San Diego, CA November 19 -21, 1997 Announcement: Attached is a copy of the announcement, which was sent under separate cover to all JTPA service delivery areas, as well as the Administration on Aging's "aging network" (State Units on Aging and Area Agencies on Aging). Action Requested: States are requested to transmit this information to interested parties, in particular to JTPA Section 204(d) project operators and other entities involved in providing services to mature, experienced workers.
