USMCA Rapid Response Labor Mechanism Panel Finds for the United States in Atento Servicios, S.A. de C.V.

WASHINGTON – A Rapid Response Labor Mechanism (RRM) panel established under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) found in favor of the United States in a determination regarding a labor dispute between Atento Servicios and Sindicato de Telefonistas de la República Mexicana (STRM) at the Atento call center in the Mexican state of Hidalgo. For the United States, this is the first panel victory under the RRM, and the first successful labor case under the dispute mechanism of a trade agreement.

US Department of Labor awards more than $1.3M to continue employment, training services in response to automotive layoffs in Michigan

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced an incremental award of more than $1.3 million to continue employment and training services in response to automotive layoffs throughout Michigan.

In September 2023, the department issued Michigan a National Dislocated Worker Grant of up to $4,000,000 – with an initial award of $1,333,333, to enable the state to provide employment and training services to help displaced workers across the state affected by the impacts of automotive industry layoffs.

US Department of Labor helps recover $520 million in suspected fraudulent pandemic-era unemployment insurance payments

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General today announced the successful recovery of approximately $520 million in suspected fraudulent unemployment insurance payments made during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

These funds, which had been frozen by a financial institution, have now been returned to the state of Maryland as a result of a coordinated recovery effort involving the department’s Office of Inspector General, the Employment and Training Administration, and Maryland’s Labor Department.
