Idaho grocer to pay $250K in penalties for employing 6 minors to clean meat slicers, grinders, other hazardous duties

TWIN FALLS, ID – The U.S. Department of Labor has reached an agreement with a south-central Idaho grocery store requiring the employer to pay $250,833 in civil money penalties, $5,078 in back wages and damages, and take steps to ensure future compliance with federal child labor laws after investigators found child labor and wage violations at numerous locations.

US Department of Labor cites two event production companies after stagehand’s fatal injury at Orlando music festival site

ORLANDO, FL – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited two event production companies following an inspection concerning an October 2024 employee fatality.

Stage FX Inc. and James Thomas Productions LLC were cited with serious violations for allegedly failing to maintain structural stability during the erection of a stage and failing to provide proper employee training on the associated hazards.

US Department of Labor, Trade Representative seek review of alleged denial of rights at steel pipe manufacturer in Mexico

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement’s Interagency Labor Committee for Monitoring and Enforcement requested that the government of Mexico review an alleged denial of workers’ rights at Tubos de Acero de Mexico S.A., a manufacturer of seamless steel pipe located in Veracruz, Mexico.

The U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Trade Representative co-chair the Interagency Labor Committee. 

The request follows a May 14, 2025, petition filed by SINAIN, a Mexican union.

Secretary Chavez-DeRemer fulfills promise to claw back billions more in unusable COVID funding

WASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer today announced that over $4.4 billion in unspent and unusable COVID-era funding has been returned to the U.S. Department of Treasury’s General Fund, completing a reconciliation process that began in March when $1.4 billion was returned to taxpayers.

In the week ending June 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 248,000, unchanged from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 247,000 to 248,000. The 4-week moving average was 240,250, an increase of 5,000 from the previous week's revised average. This is the highest level for this average since August 26, 2023 when it was 245,000. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 235,000 to 235,250.
