HONOLULU – A U.S. Department of Labor investigation has recovered $28,455 in unpaid overtime wages and an equal amount in liquidated damages from a Big Island nursery and landscaping company after they failed to pay overtime wages to 37 employees.

PITTSBURGH –  The U.S. Department of Labor has recovered $65,640 in back wages and liquidated damages for three workers at two Pittsburgh-area gas station and convenience stores after its investigation found the employer had a history of shortchanging workers and violating federal overtime laws.

SINKING SPRING, PA – The U.S. Department of Labor has obtained a consent judgment requiring a Sinking Spring home healthcare agency and its operator– which intentionally misclassified workers as independent contractors and misapplied an overtime rule to avoid paying full wages – to pay 75 caregiver employees a total of $293,990 in back wages and liquidated damages.

TARRYTOWN, NY – A Nanuet roofing and siding contractor with a significant history of safety violations and penalties now faces an additional $1,343,363 in penalties after the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigated another fatal fall by a company employee, the second in three years.

MECHANICSBURG, PA – A Maryland residential framing contractor – cited for 136 willful, repeat, serious and other violations in 20 workplace safety inspections since 2020 – continues to expose its workers to falls from elevation, the construction industry’s most lethal hazard, inspectors with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently found.

WASHINGTON – To support the Biden-Harris administration’s progress in advancing environmental justice, the U.S. Department of Labor has added programs to the Justice40 initiative. DALLAS – Despite a history of violations and worker injuries dating back almost a decade, Fiesta Mart LLC – a Houston-based supermarket operator – continues to fail in its legal obligations to protect employees. Made apparent after federal inspections in February and May 2022 determined two butchers suffered amputation injuries due to unguarded machinery.  

ANN ARBOR, MI –The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division and the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding to establish a formal partnership to enforce workers’ rights, conduct joint investigations and outreach efforts, and share information.
