"Our nation's labor market improved notably in the month of March. Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 216,000, and the unemployment rate decreased to 8.8 percent. Over the last four months, the unemployment rate has fallen by a full percentage point – its largest decline since 1984.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $300,000 National Emergency Grant increment to continue recovery and cleanup efforts in the wake of severe storms and flooding that struck Puerto Rico in May 2010. 740 employees in California, Arizona and Nevada to be compensated

SAN FRANCISCO — Levi Strauss & Co. has agreed to pay $1,011,413 in overtime back wages to 596 employees nationwide after the U.S. Department of Labor found that the company violated overtime and recordkeeping provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

BAY CITY, Mich. – Independent Bank has agreed to restore a combined $87,000 to the Richard P. Payea M.D., P.C. Money Purchase Plan and the Richard P. Payea M.D., P.C. Profit Sharing Plan as part of the settlement of a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Labor against the bank for alleged violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. The bank also has been assessed $8,700 in civil money penalties.

ARLINGTON, Va. – The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration today announced that federal inspectors issued 166 citations and orders during special impact inspections conducted at seven coal mines and one dimension stone quarry last month. The seven coal mines were issued 127 citations and four orders; the quarry operation was issued 27 citations and eight orders.
