Work And Family

An economy of shared prosperity must be grounded in a worker’s ability to balance the demands of work and family, and be both attentive caregivers and healthy, productive employees. Today’s working families face increasing responsibilities and demands on their time, and many increasingly outdated workplace policies that force people to choose between the families they love and the jobs they need. An increasing number of employers and policymakers are championing a set of 21st century family friendly policies such as paid family and medical leave, earned sick days, pregnancy accommodation, and flexible, sustainable schedules, that see workers as more than cogs in a labor supply chain. These policies allow workers to flourish in personal and professional spheres and keep America competitive in today’s global marketplace.  The Department of Labor has played a core role in the U.S. Government's efforts to convene stakeholders and experts around these issues.
