Note: This set of the U.S. Code is from the U.S. House of Representatives, Office of the Law Revision Counsel, 2006 Edition, and selected subsequent Public Laws. This 2006 Edition portion of this set contains the general and permanent laws in effect as of January 3, 2007. Later enactments and amendments to existing sections are not included. For more information see the GPO page United States Code: About. The U.S. Code is published approximately every six years, so a user must check elsewhere to ensure that they have the most up-to-date version of the provision they are researching.

GPO has Public Laws beginning with the 104th Congress (1995-96) available at Public and Private Laws: Main Page. The House of Representatives, Office of the Law Revision Counsel has a United States Code Classification Tables page that lists changes to the U.S. Code from the 105th and 106th sessions of Congress.

It will be easier, however, to consult a commercial set of the U.S. Code to identify the current status of any particular provision. The primary commercial sources of the U.S. Code are the U.S. Code Annotated, published by Thomson-West Publishing and the U.S. Code Service published by Michie and Lexis Publishing. Most federal depository libraries and many other libraries will have printed sets of the USCA and/or the USCS. The USCA is also available on Westlaw and the USCS on LEXIS; however, these are commercial, for pay, services.
