U.S. Department of Labor's Alternative Fuel Vehicle
Acquisition and Fuel Use Report for Fiscal Year 2016

February 2017

Outcome:

As indicated by the Federal Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST) Table 1 below, the Department of Labor (DOL) exceeded the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct) 75 percent goal for FY 2016 with an EPAct compliance percentage of 121 percent.

DOL's Approach to Compliance with the EPAct and Executive Order 13693:

To meet EPAct and Executive Order (E.O. ) 13693 requirements, the Department mandates that a minimum of 75 percent of its new light-duty vehicle acquisitions be Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) and through policy, guidance and meetings with component agency heads, requires agencies to acquire AFVs, decrease petroleum consumption, increase non-petroleum-based fuel usage, and take other relevant actions to reduce per-mile greenhouse gas emissions from agency fleet vehicles.

DOL AFV Acquisitions for FY 2016:

Table 1 shows the number and types of FY 2016 DOL vehicle acquisitions. DOL acquired 908 light-duty and/or medium duty passenger vehicles, of which 505 were covered by EPAct and for which DOL received 611 Total EPAct Credits.

Summary:

DOL continues to reduce the consumption of petroleum through more fuel efficient vehicles and increased use of alternative fuels. In addition, DOL has implemented an internal policy establishing AFVs as the "vehicles of choice" for new acquisitions and directs DOL agencies to select the smallest and most fuel efficient vehicles that meet mission requirements.
