US Labor Department marks 6-year anniversary of EMPLEO alliance

LOS ANGELES -- The U.S. Department of Labor will mark the sixth anniversary of establishing the Employment Education and Outreach, or EMPLEO, alliance with a ceremony to take place at the Los Angeles Mexican Consulate office. EMPLEO educates Hispanic workers and employers on workplace rights and responsibilities.

Along with other EMPLEO partners, department officials will highlight one of the key elements of the partnership -- a toll-free phone line servicing Southern California and staffed by volunteers of the Diocese of San Bernardino and the Los Angeles Mexican Consulate. The phone line has helped thousands of workers since it opened in 2004 to increase awareness of the Fair Labor Standards Act and provide Spanish-speaking employees with an avenue to communicate their labor-related problems.
