US Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division to join Mexican and Honduran consulates in New Orleans to sponsor Labor Rights Week Aug. 29-Sept. 2
NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans District Office of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division will join the Mexican and Honduran consulates in New Orleans to sponsor Labor Rights Week, Aug. 29 to Sept. 2.
Throughout the week, Wage and Hour Division staff will provide compliance assistance materials, answer questions and take complaints at the following locations in New Orleans:

Daily presentations will cover the following topics: agricultural employment – the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act and the Immigration Control and Reform Act’s H-2A requirements; the Immigration Control and Reform Act’s H-2B requirements; minimum wage and overtime requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act; and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

To kick off Labor Rights Week nationwide, Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis will welcome ambassadors from Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic to Washington, D.C., for a historical signing of joint declarations and letters of arrangement to support workers’ rights. That event will be broadcast live on the Internet at http://www.dol.gov/live on Monday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. EDT.
