Oil well maintenance workers to receive more than $232,000 in overtime back wages following US Labor Department investigation
McALESTER, Okla. -- Eastok Inc., which provides oil and gas well equipment maintenance services throughout Oklahoma, has agreed to pay $232,773 in overtime back wages to 110 current and former oil well maintenance workers following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.
“We are pleased that these employees will receive the wages to which they are entitled,” said Cynthia Watson, regional administrator for the Wage and Hour Division in the Southwest. “Some employees worked more than 100 hours in a workweek without overtime compensation. That is unacceptable.”
The investigation by the Wage and Hour Division’s Oklahoma District Office and Tulsa Area Office determined that the company violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by paying its employees straight time for all hours worked, including those hours exceeding 40 in a workweek. Additionally, the company failed to maintain required recordkeeping.
The FLSA requires that covered employees be paid at least the federal minimum wage of $7.25 for all hours worked, plus time and one-half their regular rates of pay, including commissions, bonuses and incentive pay, for hours worked beyond 40 per week. Employers must also maintain accurate time and payroll records.
