LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division and the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock have signed an agreement of understanding in which they agree to combine resources and coordinate efforts to inform employers about the laws enforced by the department, and to educate Mexican nationals working in Arkansas and Oklahoma about their rights under these laws.
As part of the agreement, the division will provide training for consulate staff on how to educate constituents on topics such as minimum wage requirements, overtime provisions, child labor standards, farm labor contracting, field sanitation and migrant labor housing.
The signing ceremony was held at the Mexican Consulate on South University Avenue in Little Rock, and was attended by Cynthia Watson, the Wage and Hour Division’s regional administrator for the Southwest; Betty Campbell, the division’s deputy regional administrator; Robert Darling, the division’s district director in Little Rock; Glynda Smith, the division’s district director in Oklahoma City; David Manuel Preciado Juarez, the consul titular from the Mexican Consulate; Consul Adscrito Edgardo Briones Velazquez; and Viceconsul de Proteccion Carlos Klein Gonzalez.
“We welcome this opportunity to partner with the Mexican Consulate in promoting compliance with wage and hour laws,” said Watson. “Through our collaborative efforts, workers will be educated on their rights and be assured that they are fully protected under the statutes enforced by the Wage and Hour Division.”
