KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City District Office of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division will participate in the fourth annual Labor Rights Week, Aug. 29–Sept. 2, to be sponsored by the Mexican Consulate in Kansas City. The goals of Labor Rights Week are to improve awareness of labor laws and the division’s mission, and to provide information that will lead to enhanced compliance, particularly for low-wage, vulnerable workers.
Wage and Hour Division staff will give a presentation on workers’ rights and division resources at the Mexican Consulate, located at 1617 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, Mo. 64108, on Monday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. CDT. Following the presentation, staff will be available to answer questions and provide information until noon.
To formalize a long-standing partnership, the division’s Kansas City District Office has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Mexican Consulate. The objective of this MOU is to provide Mexican nationals in Kansas and Missouri with access to education and training resources on their rights as workers in the United States. The partnership aims to promote compliance with the laws and regulations administered and enforced by the Wage and Hour Division, including those related to minimum wage, overtime, record keeping, child labor, safe housing and transportation.
