Hispanic Heritage Month Announcement
Women's Bureau Kicks Off Financial Literacy Campaign
WASHINGTON - Women's Bureau Director Shinae Chun will unveil a financial literacy campaign for Latina women as part of the agency's support of Hispanic Heritage Month. The project will officially begin at "Latinas: Our Foundation, Our Future," the 18th Annual National Conference of the Hispanic Women's Corporation on October 23. This first event will include participation of women, business representatives, community leaders and public officials at the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center. This financial security initiative is part of the Department of Labor's efforts to promote a secure workforce.
"Las Mujeres y el Dinero' (Women and Money) is designed to empower Latinas to become independent and secure in their own financial futures," said Chun. "As working women, we should know all there is about taking care of every aspect of our lives and that includes our financial security."
The kick-off in Phoenix marks a yearlong effort during which the bureau will host financial security meetings in each of the Women's Bureau's 10 regions. The remaining locations and events, as listed below, are also available on the Women's Bureau website at www.dol.gov/wb/welcome.html
